I've been asked time and again, why are your books so graphic, Mr. Miller. Well, when writing crime fiction, you have to stick to the real. The things that an NYPD detective sees on a regular basic would turn our stomachs. I've spoken with homicide detectives, and the things that they told me made my blood run cold, such as female serial killers. Men so upset with the baby's mother that he slammed the baby against a wall. A woman who was in charge of babysitting a child molested the child in her care. Stories like these are important when researching your crime fiction. I believe that if a writer shies away from the gritty details of being a homicide detective in any big city, is not giving the reader the full picture of said job.
The Iris Williams and Annette Toni novels are filled with realism. The crime scenes are depicted the way a homicide detective would see them, gritty and hard to swallow.
Here are the Iris Williams and Annette novels in order, which comes with a warning.
The Twins, Book #1
Stacey: The Twins, Book #2
I.Williams, Book #3
No Man Left Behind, Book #4
The Patient, Book #5
Medieval, Book #6

So there you have, for me, keeping ot real in crime fiction is the only way to go, don't sugar-coat anything.
Talk to you soon!
